Need for Testing and Evaluation

The Public sectors / Private sectors including Small Scale Industries have to intensify efforts to produce more and more standard and quality products so as to help in inducing faster growth, increasing export and making available products to the satisfaction of the customers.
 
Testing and Calibration facilities in any country are very important for its industrial development. Benefits from these facilities are improvement in product quality, design and reduction in operating cost. Thus the Test / Calibration Laboratories should be capable to provide the reliable test results.

Today Quality Control is the prime slogan of every industry and Quality is the  prime slogan of every consumer.

To intimate quality control, it is necessary to have facility like Good manufacturing methods, Inspection, Testing and Calibration. These facilities are also utilised to draw up National and International Standards.

To emphasis the Quality of any product, it shall be ensured with trustworthy measurement, test and uniform methods and procedures.

Quality and Consumer satisfaction are prime important subjects receiving increased attention worldwide. Quality Products establish safety, durability, reliability, assured usage etc. To ensure Quality by standardising the products, standard specification are introduced by the majority of countries globally.
The Indian Standard Specification provides all the requirements for Quality Products and updated periodically inline with the International Standards by the Bureau of Indian Standards. More than 15,000 Indian Standards are available for various  products.


About  CETL

Central  Electrical Testing Laboratory (CETL) was established under the control of the Directorate of Industries and Commerce, Government of Tamilnadu and commenced its services from May 1973. It is situated at Kakkalur, just 42 Km from Chennai on the Chennai- Tiruvallur High Road and 3 Km ahead of Tiruvallur.
CETL is fully equipped to conduct tests on various electrical products of 170 types as per relevant Indian Standard Specifications and also have calibration facilities for Electrotechnical, Temperature and Pressure parameters.

In the year 1974, vide G.O.Ms.850 Industries (Spl) Dept. dt.15.6.1974, Government of Tamilnadu  appointed this Laboratory  as the main Sampling and Certification agency for various Government / Quasi Government  Departments / Boards for their purchase of electrical goods and also acts as a Quality consultant for purchasing departments and reiterated the same vide G.O.(2D)No.2 Small Ind.(EIII) Dept. dated 11.1.2000

The samples for testing are being received from 

    • All branches of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) [a Quality marking Organisation of Government of India (ISI)]
    • Indian Railways , Rail India Techo Economic Services (RITES)
    • Director General of Supplies and Disposals (DGS&D)
    • Central / State Government and Quasi Government Organisations
    • Manufacturers / R&D Units all over the country. 

 

The test / calibration facilities are offered at affordable rates as approved by the Government of Tamilnadu from time-to-time.
